As the next step, the Resolution will be put on voting at the Plenary Session of the U.S. House of Representatives in autumn 2016. The Resolution will need support of the majority in order to be passed.

The Memorandum reaffirms and expands U.S.-Georgia bilateral defense and security cooperation in the areas of defense capacity building, military and security cooperation, cyber security provision and information sharing: “The United States and Georgia believe that formalizing a durable and strategic approach to defense and security cooperation increases the security of both countries and positively impacts regional stability and global security. This Memorandum on Deepening the Defense and Security Partnership therefore reaffirms and expands the United States and Georgia’s enduring and effective defense and security cooperation,” says the Memorandum.

The U.S.-Georgia Strategic Partnership Commission's (SPC) Democracy and Governance Working Group met on June 21 in Tbilisi to review progress on goals set at the Working Group’s November 2015 meeting in Washington.  Both sides affirmed the importance of strong, depoliticized government institutions and transparent and accountable governance. The United States commended the progress made by Georgia in furthering its reform agenda. The sides agreed that an open, pluralistic, and peaceful political environment is essential to Georgia's goal to make the October parliamentary elections a showcase of Georgia’s democratic progress.

On June 18th, 150 anniversary celebration of Buffalo Soldiers in Columbia, South Carolina opened by Georgian anthem to mark Georgia-U.S. longstanding partnership. The event was attended by the honorary delegation from the Embassy of Georgia in the United States.

The Deputy Secretary of State, Tony Blinken congratulated the Georgian people on the Day of Independence at an official reception held to mark the 25th anniversary of the restoration of Georgia’s independence in Washington, on 8 June 2016. The Deputy Secretary of State spoke about the long-standing friendship between Georgia and the United States based on common values of democracy and freedom.

On April 20, 2016 Ambassador of Georgia to the U.S. Archil Gegeshidze met with the US Congressman Ted Deutch (D-Florida). Parties discussed security challenges and Georgia’s aspirations. Georgian side underlined importance of the US support towards Georgia, including the need to further deepen bilateral relations between the two countries. Congressman emphasized strong support of the U.S. towards Georgia, including support on Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. In response to Ambassador’s request, Congressman emphasized that he will consider his co-sponsorship on the Resolution supporting Georgia’s territorial integrity (H.Res.660), which was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives. Moreover, he will consider joining House Georgia Caucus and possibility of visiting Georgia in the nearest future.

Georgian side underlined importance of the U.S. support and its assistance, including the need to strengthen strategic relations between the two countries. Congressman emphasized strong friendship with Georgia and expressed his support towards Resolution on Georgia’s territorial integrity (H.Res.660), which was introduced on 23 March, 2016 in the U.S. House of Representatives.
